Thanksgiving Weekend in Avalon: Nov. 20 – Nov. 28: Thanksgiving Weekend will return to Avalon with live entertainment and fun events for the entire family. This year, the need for festive fun and celebration is greater than ever. And after months of canceling events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Borough of Avalon, the 7 Mile Business Community Association and various community organizations have come together to plan a safe and socially distanced Thanksgiving weekend. So, save the dates! While the town’s traditional weekend activities will be slightly modified, there will still be plenty of entertainment and fun for all ages. 609-967-3936.

Festival of Trees:
Nov. 20 - 28: This year, the Festival of Trees will be hosted by participating businesses and be held earlier than usual, starting Friday, Nov. 20. Shop your favorite Avalon stores while browsing a variety of trees and wreaths on display. Bid via mobile app and head to the next display. Bidding will run through Saturday afternoon, Nov. 28, and mobile app bidders will be alerted of their winnings at 2pm! 609-967-3936.

Turkey Trot – Virtual 5K:
Between Nov. 25 and Nov. 30: Burn those turkey calories with a virtual 5K to benefit the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children. Register online, put on a costume if you like, and then complete your 5K at your leisure between Wednesday, Nov. 25 and Monday, Nov. 30. Head north, head south or just head around the block! Festive Friday and Snowflake Saturday:
Nov. 27-28: Head to Dune Drive for carriage rides, live music, children’s performances, crafts, giveaways and more. And stick around: While Santa will not be able to meet with families this year, he is still heading to Avalon with a special lighting of Dune Drive at 4:30pm, with a variety of characters waving along the way. Gather safely along Dune Drive and watch as the island lights up for the holidays! Following the lighting, head east to the beach: The Avalon Recreation Department will be hosting drive-in movies at the 30th Street parking lot Friday and Saturday. And do it all over again on Saturday with more live entertainment, fun crafts and performances and, of course, some holiday shopping at our retail stores and restaurants. 609-967-3936.

Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration: Nov. 27 - Dec. 23 at varied locations: Did you know Cape May was voted the Best Christmas Town in the State of New Jersey by Readers Digest on This year, the nation’s oldest seaside, resort will host an Olde Fashioned Christmas Celebration from Nov. 27 to Dec. 23. Check Santa’s list of activities online. 

Holiday Wish List Contest:
Nov. 27 – Dec. 23, 2020: Follow the holiday lights to the end of the Parkway and head to Cape May this holiday season where you will find friendly faces and open spaces to enjoy a safe, open-air shopping experience with unique shops and delicious dining options. Simply visit any participating merchant for information and entry forms. Fill out a form and be automatically entered in our weekly prize drawings as well as the grand prize drawing for a weekend getaway to Cape May! Check back on Nov. 15th to see a list of participating stores and restaurants. 

Rocking Around the Christmas Tree: Christmas Carol Karaoke: Saturdays at 6 pm in Rotary Park: Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12, and 19: Sing along to your favorite Christmas tunes at Rotary Park. A fun and free event for you and your family and possibly a new holiday tradition! Social distancing and masks are required. 

Cape May City Tree Lighting at Rotary Park: Saturday, Dec. 5th at 6pm: Join us for a night of Olde-fashioned family fun including caroling, a tree lighting ceremony, and a special visit from Santa Claus! Rotary Park is located at 400 Lafayette Street in Cape May, NJ. Social distancing and masks are required for this event.  

Holiday Paws & Claws Photo Contest: Entries must be posted or emailed by midnight on Saturday, Dec. 19th. Dress up your pets in their holiday best! Then take a picture to enter to win prizes. Submit your photo by posting it on either Facebook or Instagram and tagging it with #cmholidaypawsandclaws. Entries must be posted by midnight on Saturday, December 19th.  

Not Your Grandma's Fruitcake Baking Contest: Register by email at by midnight on Saturday, Dec.19th: Do you have a new spin on this Christmas classic? Enter your version of a fruit cake to in this tasty competition. Register by midnight on Saturday, December 19th. Please include your name and a phone number. Entrants will receive more details about delivering their culinary creation for judging.  

Light Up Cape May Decorating Contest:
Cape May always shines bright at Christmas, and this year is no exception. Homes and businesses are decked out in their holiday best. 

12 Days of Christmas: Cape May Walking Tour & Holiday Hunt: Find all 12 holiday symbols hidden around Cape May, then snap a festive photo of you or your group and post it on Facebook or Instagram using #CapeMay12Days for a chance to win. Check back on November 15 to see more details about this family-friendly activity, download a PDF map of the symbols, or access an interactive version of the holiday hunt.

Winterfest By the Sea:
Nov. 13 - 14: New this year, the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to present their first annual "Winterfest By The Sea," a Holiday Craft Market! The event will take place on Friday, November 13th from Noon to 5pm and Saturday, November 14th from 9am-5pm at the practice field located at 6th Street and the Boardwalk. The event is sure to put you in the Christmas Spirit! Fine hand crafted items and specialty food gifts will be available for purchase, along with activities for kids, including visits with Santa Claus himself! 800-BEACH-NJ.

Earlier than the Bird Downtown Shopping Extravaganza:
Saturday, Nov. 21: When was the last time you shopped in your pajamas? - and no, we’re not talking Cyber Monday at home. Ocean City’s “Earlier than the Bird” gives everyone a jump start on holiday shopping the weekend before Thanksgiving - and you can wear your pajamas, too! 800-BEACH-NJ.

Free Horse and Carriage Rides through Downtown:
Nov. 21-22 and 27-29. Dec. 5-6, 12-13, 19-20: The Asbury shopping district becomes a “Miracle on Asbury Avenue” celebrating the holiday with beautifully decorated shops and special holiday offers, free horse and carriage rides throughout the downtown and much more. 800-BEACH-NJ.

First Night New Year’s Eve Celebration in Ocean City:
Dec. 31. Add an exclamation point to your weeks of shopping and holiday fun with First Night in Ocean City - an alcohol-free celebration that’s been a tradition for years and is the perfect way of ring out the old and ring in the new. Fall Girls Weekend: Nov. 20-22: It’s a shopping bonanza and a chance to get together with your best gal pals! Take advantage of great deals from businesses throughout Sea Isle City. Participating retailers, salon and fitness services, restaurants, lodging and other businesses throughout the City will be identified with a colorful “Girls Weekend” flag hanging in front of their stores and restaurants. Wildwoods Holiday Shopping Village: Saturday, Nov. 28: A completely outdoor shopping experience. Dozens of local small business vendors will be on hand for you to purchase the perfect holiday gift. Start a new tradition and bring the family to this unique outdoor shopping event featuring local artisans specializing offering jewelry, handcrafted items, holiday decorations, baked goods, boutique shops, gifts and more.
